America has been waiting for months. What first seemed to start as a joke became a reality and we were faced with a decision. For most, it was a choice of who was the lesser evil. Either way the election went, there was going to be much upset. Now on the opposite end of the election, Trump is elected as our next President and the only thing people can seem to agree on is the relief that it is finally over.
What do I think about this election? Well, I’m all for women’s rights and women being in higher power. But I’m thankful that our first woman president will not (hopefully) be someone who has needed to be investigated by the FBI. I mean c’mon ladies, we can do better. Yes, Clinton is a woman, but I do not believe she embodies or stands for what being a strong woman truly means. As far as Trump goes, I can’t say I’m thrilled. I don’t think many people are thrilled. I have heard many times the hope of the “Jacob affect.” Jacob became the right hand man of a pharaoh who was not the best person. But in the position, Jacob was able to eventually gain full power and greatly influenced Egypt. This is the hope many have for Pence.I am not writing this simply to voice my opinion. Honestly, I’m getting a little sick of hearing all these opinions, and I’m certainly not educated enough to write a blog post about politics (nor would I want to). However, I am educated on where the power really lies.
Throughout the Bible, the Lord has risen up and taken down leaders. And believe me, if God doesn’t want you in power you will not stay in power. This is the hope I have. That no matter who is president, God is the forever reigning king.
Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
Will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.” (Psalm 91:1-2)
In the midst of confusion, as many people who idolize the government are having their hopes come crashing down, I will chose to dwell under God’s shelter, find rest, and remind myself that He is my refuge. Not laws. Not leaders. Not even America. God is my refuge, my ever present help in trouble.
I feel for those who are scared and nervous because of this outcome. Trump has not spoken well of, and threatened, many groups of people who fall under the title of American.
When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy (Psalm 94:19)
The Lord can and will bring joy and peace to those who ask for it. There is a great calm in knowing a power bigger than this earth is holding you in the palm of His hand. The Lord has not forgotten us, but is right here with us.
For,”Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved .” (Romans 10:13)
Dear America,
I pray this becomes a reason for unification of the people. No matter your race, gender, sexual orientation or anything else that people may try to tell you makes you different, I pray we humble ourselves and bow before the King of Kings who has been appointing and destroying leaders since the beginning of time. I pray we ask for guidance for ourselves and for those leading our country. I pray we have the maturity to leave opinions at the door and meet each other with love. The President is just one person. No matter how much power someone has, it does not take away from the power God has. I hope this election has opened our eyes to the desperate need in America. The need for love. The need for friendship. The need for loving your neighbor no matter who they voted for. Let’s acknowledge all the things that have happened this past year. Lives lost, hate, racism, separation. Let’s let those things fuel our will to do better. The amazing thing about the USA is the power really does belong to the people.
Call on the name of the Lord. God listens, he knows, and he hears. Cry out to him, and you will be saved. The government can’t save you, but God can.
Replace anger with love. We don’t need more of anything, but love.
I have felt the immense power within a room of teenagers praising God. It is a power beyond human comprehension or ability.
I had a more mature conversation with my peers (of all backgrounds) in English class than most adults are having on Facebook.
I have great hope for America because of what I see in my generation, and the faithfulness of God that has always been and always will be constant.
Maybe this is God shaking America. Maybe this is really the beginning of new good things, not the end of everything. Maybe it’s time to spend time loving people than writing highly opinionated statuses that (SPOILER ALERT) change no one’s opinion.
Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD,
-Psalm 33:12
